Continuous torrential rain in summer, some generator sets used outdoors are not covered in time in rainy days, and the diesel generator set is wet. If they are not taken care of in time, the generator set will be rusted, corroded and damaged, the circuit will be damp in case of water, the insulation resistance will be reduced, and there is a risk of breakdown and short-circuit burning, so as to shorten the service life of the generator set. So what should I do when the diesel generator set gets wet in the rain? The following six steps are summarized in detail by Leton power, the manufacturer of diesel generator set.
1. First, wash the diesel engine surface with water to remove sfuel and sundries, and then remove the fuel stain on the surface with metal cleaning agent or washing powder.
2. Support one end of the diesel engine so that the fuel drain part of the fuel pan is at a lower position. Unscrew the fuel drain plug and pull out the fuel dipstick to make the water in the fuel pan flow out by itself. When it flows to the point where the fuel is about to be drained, slightly let the fuel and water drain together, and then screw on the fuel drain plug.
3. Remove the air filter of the diesel generator set, remove the upper shell of the filter, take out the filter element and other components, remove the water in the filter, and clean all parts with metal cleaner or diesel fuel. The filter is made of plastic foam. Wash it with detergent or soapy water (disable gasoline), rinse and dry with water, then dip in proper amount of fuel. fuel immersion shall also be carried out when replacing a new filter. The filter element is made of paper and needs to be replaced with a new one. After cleaning and drying all parts of the filter, install them as required.
4. Remove the intake and exhaust pipes and mufflers to drain the internal water. Turn on the decompression valve and rotate the diesel engine to see whether there is water discharged from the inlet and exhaust ports. If there is water discharged, continue to rotate the crankshaft until all the water in the cylinder is discharged. Install the intake and exhaust pipes and muffler, add a little fuel to the air inlet, rotate the crankshaft for several turns, and then install the air filter. If it is difficult for the flywheel to rotate due to the long water inflow time of the diesel engine, it indicates that the cylinder liner and piston ring have been rusted. Remove the rust and clean it before assembly. If the rust is serious, replace it in time.
5. Remove the fuel tank and drain all the fuel and water. Check whether there is water in the diesel filter and fuel pipe. If there is water, drain it. Clean the fuel tank and diesel filter, then replace it, connect the fuel circuit, and add clean diesel into the fuel tank.
6. Discharge the sewage in the water tank and water channel, clean the water channel, add clean river water or bfueled well water until the water float rises. Turn on the throttle] switch and start the diesel engine. The manufacturer of Cummins generator set suggests that after the diesel engine is started, pay attention to the rise of fuel indicator and listen to whether the diesel engine of diesel generator set has abnormal sound. After checking whether all parts are normal, run in the diesel engine. The running in sequence is idling first, then medium speed, and then high speed. The running time is 5 minutes respectively. After running in, stop the machine and drain the fuel. Add new engine fuel again, start the diesel engine and run at medium speed for 5 minutes, then it can be used normally.
Taking the above six steps to comprehensively inspect the set will effectively restore the diesel generator set to a better state and eliminate potential safety hazards in future use. The diesel generator set is best used indoors. If your generator set has to be used outdoors, you should cover it at any time to prevent unnecessary damage to the diesel generator set due to rain and other weather.
