As the diesel generator set may be affected by natural disasters such as flood and rainstorm and restricted by the structure, the generator set cannot be completely waterproof. If there may be water or impregnation inside the generator, necessary measures shall be taken.
1. Do not run the engine
Disconnect the external power supply and battery connection line, and do not run the engine or try to turn the crankshaft.
2. Check the water inflow
(1) Check whether there is water discharged from the drainage components of the exhaust pipeline (the lowest part of the exhaust pipe or the muffler).
(2) Check whether there is water in the air filter housing and whether the filter element is immersed in water.
(3) Check whether there is water at the bottom of the generator housing.
(4) Check whether the radiator, fan, coupling and other rotating parts are blocked.
(5) Whether there is fuel, fuel or water leakage outside.
Never let water invade the combustion chamber of the engine!
3. Further inspection
Remove the rocker arm chamber cover and observe whether there is water. Check generator winding insulation / contamination.
Main stator winding: the minimum insulation resistance to ground is 1.0m Ω. Excitation rotor / main rotor: the minimum insulation resistance to ground is 0.5m Ω.
Check the insulation of control circuit and output circuit. Detect the control panel module, various instruments, alarm device and start switch.
4. Treatment method
When it is judged that there is no water in the combustion chamber of the generator set engine and the insulation meets the requirements, the generator set can be started.
Carry out all inspections before starting, including draining the accumulated water in the fuel tank. Gradually power on the electrical system and observe whether there is any abnormality.
Do not start the engine continuously for more than 30 seconds. If the engine cannot catch fire, check the fuel pipeline and electrical circuit and start it again after one or two minutes.
Check whether the engine sound is abnormal and whether there is peculiar smell. Check whether the display of electrical instrument and LCD screen are broken or unclear.
Closely observe the fuel pressure and water temperature. If the fuel pressure or temperature does not meet the technical specifications, shut down the engine. After shutdown, check the fuel level once.
When judging that the engine may be flooded and the insulation of the generator does not meet the requirements, do not repair it without authorization. Seek the help of professional engineers of the generator set manufacturer. These works at least include:
Remove the cylinder head, drain the accumulated water and replace the lubricating fuel. Clean the winding. After cleaning, use static drying or short-circuit drying to ensure that the insulation resistance of the winding is not less than 1m Ω. Clean the radiator with low-pressure steam.
